Festival of Light comes to Birmingham - with video
A festival featuring multi-sensory light installations has come to the West Midlands.
Shoppers young and old took to the displays as part of the Bullring and Grand Central's Festival of Light in Birmingham.
St Martin's Square has been transformed into an interactive spectacle as part of the event, which runs until March 10 between 5pm and 10pm.
To celebrate the launch, the shopping centre held a spin-style fitness class at the Lightbattle X installation – which sees people use bikes to project beams of light to the opposite side to defeat them.
Spin instructor Frankie Flavell hosted the class.
Stephanie Lacey, general manager at Bullring and Grand Central, said: “We’re thrilled to be hosting the spectacular ‘Festival of Light’ for the first time.
"It’s a fantastic addition to our annual programme and showcases Bullring and Grand Central not only as a mecca for shoppers and diners but also a dynamic space for cultural events."
The festival features themed installations centred around natural phenomena, including Wave – 500 individual suspended orbs which create a walkthrough experience reminiscent of the ocean with light and sound.
Entertainers will interact with visitors and roam around the festival, including LED ballerinas, a unique and elegant strolling act called Calvos, LED juggling clubs and ethereal characters called The Arcadians.
