Hednesford-based artist Jade Mawson is showcasing her “The Art of Conservation” exhibition at the museum until February 22.

The exhibition includes pencil and charcoal drawings of wildlife – including chimpanzees, cheetahs and orangutans – and also celebrities who are active in wildlife conservation including David Attenborough and Ricky Gervais.

Rachel Gentle, visitor services manager at Cannock Chase Museum, said: “It is Jade’s first exhibition and she is self-taught.

“Her works are in pencil and charcoal – she creates photo-realistic drawings of living creatures. She captures the strong contrast between light and dark. By showcasing her work she is hoping to highlight the importance of taking of our planet and creatures. They are brilliant pieces of work – you would not believe they are pencil drawings as they look like black and white photographs, the detail is incredible.”

“We have already had people come in especially to see the exhibition and people are buying Jade’s original pieces.

“We are expecting the exhibition to be very popular during its run.”

During the exhibition, Jade will be selling original pieces, along with a selection of limited edition prints. For every sale, 10 per cent of the profits will be donated to Staffordshire Wildlife Trust.

Cannock Chase Museum is open Monday to Friday, between 11am and 4pm.
