Victorian Christmas market comes to Wolverhampton - with pictures

Hundreds of people gathered as Christmas arrived in Wolverhampton.

The Victorian Christmas markets were set up in the city centre today, bringing the festive cheer to the Black Country.

More than 100 stalls packed out Queen Square, Dudley Street and Lichfield Street with a variety of food and drinks and festive gifts up for grabs.

The city also hosted the Carols in the City event, which saw a number of Victorian Market entertainment including local children from Bilston CofE Primary School, The King's Church of England School, Wolverhampton Council Choir and Palmers and Friends Gospel Group.

Throughout the weekend, there will be a Victorian funfair as the backdrop to the event.

After opening on Friday, the market is open from 10am to 7pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.

Last year's market saw 15,000 visitors generating £200,00 for the local business economy.

The Victorian Christmas Market, at Queen Square, Wolverhampton

Throughout the festivities Queen Square and Lichfield Street will be closed in both directions between the junctions for North Street, Victoria Street, Princess Street and Princes Square.

Darlington Street will be closed between the junctions with Red Lion Street and North Street while Dudley Street will be closed between King Street and Queen Square.

Exchange Street and Lich Gates will be fully closed also.

Buses on the affected streets will be diverted and passengers are encouraged to use alternative stops on Stafford Street and Wolverhampton Bus Station.
