Bubbles the anteater has the staff at DZG bursting with excitement as a possible love interest for fellow resident Romy.

The friendly male arrived from Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire on Monday. To begin with, Bubbles and Romy will live in separate parts of the paddock and will be introduced to each other over time if the introduction is successful.

The first step was to give the pair visual access through a mesh fence. ZooDZG assistant curator Jay Haywood, said: “Introducing Bubbles to Romy will be a slow process but it is going very well so far. If things remain positive as we give them more contact we will look to put them together and hopefully they will breed in the future.”

“Bubbles is smaller than Romy and has a lovely temperament. We’ve given him a few tickles through the mesh and he seemed to like it.”

The newest recruit at DZG will turn one-years-old on June 19 and the staff are planning a special celebration.
