The 2020 awards follow on from the success of the first year's awards

The region is home to nearly seven percent of Muslims in the country, with a large number of businesses and businessmen and women making an impact.

Now, the communities these businesses serve can help give them recognition by nominating them for the 2020 Islam Channel Business Awards.

The awards, which were handed out for the first time in 2019, were established to acknowledge and encourage growth and to further the development of the Muslim Business Community.

More than 800 guests attended the first awards and gave positive feedback about the awards, with many referring to them as the Muslim Oscars.

Now, in 2020, more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the awards ceremony, which will take place at the JW Marriott, Grosvenor House, on March 27.

Nominations can be made for any of 16 categories, including Start-up Business of the Year, Community Business of the Year and individual awards for Businessman and Businesswoman of the Year.

Mr Mohamed Ali Harreth, CEO at Islam Channel, explained the vision behind the ceremony.

He said: "Today, the Global Islamic Economy is large and growing rapidly. The industry was conservatively estimated to be worth $2 trillion as of 2015 and is projected to be worth $3 trillion by 2021.

"The UK is playing an important role in the development of this exciting industry and is also home to many emerging Muslim owned and Muslim-oriented businesses.

"A young demographic that is increasingly highly educated and affluent, British Muslims are catching the attention of both independent and mainstream brands who are increasingly courting the Muslim Pound.

"Thousands of Muslim-owned businesses have made a significant contribution to the UK economy and by extension the social, political and cultural landscape of Britain.

"The Islam Channel Business Awards is an effort to recognize and celebrate their achievements."

Nominations for awards are open until Friday, January 31.
