The annual Black Country Festival, which kicked-off last weekend, includes a month of family days, carnivals and charity events.

Residents have been flying the flag and celebrating everything that is great about the region – ahead of the official Black Country Day on July 14.

The festival, now in its fifth year, runs until July 29, and each bostin’ celebration is designed to bring the Black Country communities across Dudley, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Walsall together.

This weekend is packed full of events including Halesowen Carnival, Willenhall Transport Show, Chainmakers Festival and Netherton Fun Day.

Today, hundreds are expected to flock to Highfield Park for Halesowen Carnival, with two stages of live entertainment, a dog show, fairground, face painting, teddy bear’s picnic and stalls.

While Cradley Heath’s High Street hosts The Women Chainmakers’ Festival for a family fun day with a difference.

In Oldbury, there will also be the Tividale Park Fun Day, from 11am to 5pm, and Netherton Park Fun Day in Dudley, between 10am and 5pm.

More than 200 vehicles will be featured at Willenhall Transport show tomorrow, from 11am, and there will be a number of events and activities on offer during the Stourbridge Community Carnival between 10am and 5pm.

Events throughout next week will include a Black Country Chamber networking event, quiz night, three-course Black Country food night and an afternoon ‘tay’ event.

On Black Country Day itself, next Saturday, there will be a fun day in Dudley town centre, a coffin race, Black Country Masters Golf Tournament, Wordsley Festival, Shell Corner Food and Drink Festival, Sandwell Youth Festival, OH Festival, Wolverhampton Fiesta and the Black Country Variety Show.

The Dudley fun day will include a performance from Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Donchez Dacres, as well as a ‘radio roadshow’, live entertainment, vintage cars and motorbikes, and plenty of stalls.

Dave Brownhill, Black Country Festival chairman, said: “Everyone in the Black Country is so proud of where they come from.

“This year is going to be bigger and better than ever. It is really the people’s festival.”
