The Wolverhampton mother has successfully made it through to the final of the BBC One show.

She competed in the semi-final tonight and said she felt 'on top of the world' after becoming one of the top three chefs.

Tonight's semi-final, shown at 8pm, saw the 44-year-old step out of her comfort zone to tackle canapés - something she said she had never even tasted let alone cooked.

But the judges were impressed with her mini samosas and chicken tikka bites, and sent her straight into the final three. Originally, the programme started with 10 chefs.

Dipa, who works as a civil servant in the city centre, said: "It's absolutely amazing, I never even dreamed of this. I'm so nervous for the final because I know there will be pressure to be absolutely perfect. There are eyes on all of us now."

All through the show Dipa has created stylish but comforting home-cooked dishes by combining her father’s Kenyan heritage and her mother’s Indian heritage with her own British twist.

When asked what she would do if she won the show outright, Dipa said: "I would just turn to jelly. It would just be amazing. To think someone like me, who's never had any professional training, who's just been taught by her mum, it would mean the world."

Looking into the future, mother-of-three Dipa said she would love to turn cooking into her full-time career.

She added: "I love cooking, it's part of my life. It's not something that was particularly encouraged at school, but this is my opportunity now."

Catch the final of Britain's Best Home Cook tonight on BBC One at 8pm.
